Im very pro robot.
I think that if the War of the Machines started tomorrow, I’d root for SkyNet. I’ve never seen a racist robot, I’ve never seen an iPhone lie to the cops and say a nigga stole it. I trust robots. A good algorithm has lead me to some great Dates, great sneakers, and great music. When the New Eminem album dropped, Tidal told me to check out someone else. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I pressed play.
So with that said, let’s get into Sonny Digital x Black Boe’s New tape “Black Goat 2”
This shit is really fun.
I never listened to Sonny Digital rap but I always rocked with his production. I’ve never heard of Black Boe but these two are a great tandem. This tape feels like a saturday, they aren’t rapping about selling drugs or shooting niggas but you know someone around them does both these things. The energy is frenetic, but the content is still pretty laid back. Every song is about how great they are, how cool their cars are, and how they could fuck your girl (but won’t). It’s kind of like Curren$y if he was trying to smoke away an anxiety attack. To be honest the content isn’t that new, I’ve heard all these raps before, but the energy is just so fun and unique. It’s nice to hear from up and coming rappers who aren’t focused on blowing up as much as they are creating. I live for this energy.
My only real issue with this tape is that it can feel childish at points. I was walking around my neighborhood listening to this, looked at a crossing guard and wondered why she wasn’t crossing the street to help me, a 31 year old man. This music made me excited for Christmas gifts and the last day of school. I had to turn it off when I went to the grocery store because I would’ve ended up with Oreos and Twizzlers instead of grown man shit like Ramen and Alcoholic Ice Cream. There’s not too much depth here but, that’s not to be expected. This is a good tape for a staycation in a hotel 3 blocks away from your house. This is good music to buy luxury lamb-skin condoms; you know you still have responsibility but you can live a little bit.
I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords and appreciate that they sent me this dope ass tape. So with that said I give "Black Goat 2” 8 Google Homes out of 10.
