There’s some music I can’t fully enjoy unless I’m unemployed.
It sounds irresponsible but some artists are meant to be listened to after you woke up at noon and have no deadlines. You need to be free to let your mind wander and jobs usually require/demand focus. Sir is one of those “unemployment” artist. His laid back nature and the soothing sounds of his music are designed for aimless walks on the beach. I didn’t know too much about Sir but the moment I found out he had a song called John Redcorn I had to start listening to him. Anyone who can make a song for the tragic hero of King of The Hill (I will die for this point) is worth listening to.
So with no further ado, lets get into Sir’s new album “Chasing Summer”.
I love it. I feel seen, Sir messed around and made an album for artsy fuckbois.
Sir made an album for dudes who ghost girls, just to sneak and go to therapy. This album is the embodiment of “hey sorry, I got some stuff to figure out”. Sir made an album about emotional growth, fucking and avoiding responsibilities. This is a good album to listen to when you find out your ex is engaged while you’re waking up at your fuck buddys house. This album represents slightly toxic Niggas, like if Future is the “King of toxicity”, Sir is like the “Earl of it toxicity”. In a world full of Hummers he’s like a Prius; he’s a cleaner alternative but still has a carbon footprint.
This album really speaks to me in a lot of ways. I relate to Sir’s journey of self discovery and desire to be a better nigga. It’s a tough road that gets tougher when you remember you still want to be around women who appreciate your growth but don’t want their time wasted. The main message of this album is “I need to be alone but I really wanna fuck” and who can’t relate to that? This is a good album to listen to while you’re spending a night in at home relaxing/waiting for STD test results.
I can’t think of many issues with this album, if anything it ends too soon. This is an album about growth but, it doesn’t end with growth, it just ends. I understand that growth isn’t a clear cut process and there are many plateaus, but this album left me drifting in space.
Overall “Chasing Summer” is a masterpiece that made me delete my dating apps and call my therapists. I give it 9.5 “I mean if you want, you can come through” texts out of 10.
